Tips from the Experts
How to Get Pledges
Did you know that the average walker last year raised more than $580 simply by asking people for pledges? Here are tips from some of our top experts:
"Everyone should be able to raise $2,000 in pledges. I ask everyone I meet, from my neighbors and friends, to my doctors, and even the managers at the restaurants where I eat."
-- John O'Sullivan, $7,294 in 2009
"To get sponsors you need to be constantly asking people. Ask with encouragement -- tell them this is something to save lives. After all, if we didn't have parents who believed in saving lives, we wouldn't be here."
-- Shawn Walsh, Top Youth Walker Austin, $2,491 in 2008
"Being a child of the electronic age, I find that the Internet is the best way for me to solicit pledges for the Walk. Each year I email my friends and family and ask them to support life. Many are from the Central Texas area and are quite happy to assist efforts here, even if they now live in Pennsylvania and Hawaii! The tracking system online makes it easy to see who has responded and who I can touch base with again."
-- Alexis Thibodeau Dobson, $1,285 in 2007
"The Walk is a wonderful way to promote the pro-life cause in our area. Each year is a lot of fun because you have the opportunity to meet wonderful new people, and get a chance to visit with some familiar faces as well. It is also a great way to involve others in the pro-life cause who might not have otherwise known of it, and the funds raised through the Walk do so much to benefit the pro-life cause by promoting safe alternatives to abortion."
-- Tara McAdams
"We set up a table after church one Sunday and asked people for pledges as they were leaving."
-- Jennifer Stratton, $1,035 in 2007
